Daily Art Exercises-Pick any one you like and/or make the art you feel
Art Exercise 10: Create a tree of gratitude. What are the things, family, friends and moments you are grateful for? Make a list. Then, draw a tree trunk with branches. Create a leaf for every item in your list and draw or glue the leaf to the tree.
Art Exercise 9: Pick an object from home that is small and draw it super large on your paper as if you are looking at it through a magnifying glass. Add as many details as you can.
Art Exercise 8: Draw a family member or all your family. Give them all smiles!
Art Exercise 7: Listen to a favorite song, with a pencil/pen, close your eyes and draw the curve lines to the song (feeling). Color with warm colors-yellow, red and orange.
Art Exercise 6: Draw a family shield of symbols that reflect strength, togetherness and love. Use colors that represent your family.
Art Exercise 5: Pick a room in your home and sit in one spot. Draw everything you see from that one spot in the room.
Art Exercise 4: Look out a window from your home and draw any objects you see, street views, plants, trees and sky from that window. Look at how the colors of the trees have changed.
Art Exercise 3: Only use colors that calm you. Create a drawing or a painting using only colors that you find calming.

Art Exercise 67: Last Day of School! Happy Summer Break! Celebrate your day by making art anyway that you like. Include the sun and warm air! Be safe and be well! This is the last blog post of Art Exercises. Take a look at the previous art exercises and be inspired to make art this summer!
Art Exercise 66: Take photographs of things you think are beautiful. No one else has to like them but you. Print and frame them to have constant reminders of the beautiful things in life.
Tuesday, June 16 Art Exercise 65: Draw with your non-dominant hand. Pick an image within your comfort level of drawing. If you write with your right hand, switch your drawing tool to your left hand. Try to draw the image while looking at it.
Monday, June 15 Art Exercise 64: Work on a softness project. Using only soft or comforting objects, create a work of art. Use your pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, towels and anything with texture.
Friday, June 12 Art Exercise 63: Family together drawing. Draw your family together within a shape of your choice.
Thursday, June 11 Art Exercise 62: Make a sign! Design a message of activism on a poster. Think about the importance of that message. Post it in your window. Black Lives Matter!
Wednesday, June 10 Art Exercise 61: Build your time capsule! Find a box or bottle and fill with a memory items of your school year. Can be artwork, cards, notes, newspapers or a wrapper of your favorite snack.
Tuesday, June 9 Art Exercise 60: Draw a poem in to a shape. Find a famous poem like the Langston Hughes-A Dream Deferred and draw the words of the poem into a shape.
Monday, June 8 Art Exercise 59: Put together a journal. Journals don't have to just be based around words. You can make an art journal as well, that lets you visually express your emotions.
Friday, June 5 Art Exercise 58: Draw Your Heart. Draw your feelings in a heart formation.
Thursday, June 4 Art Exercise 57: Paint a mountain and a valley. The mountain can represent a time where you were happy, the valley, when you were sad. Add elements that reflect specific events as well.
Wednesday, June 3 Art Exercise 56: Scrape book a page of thoughts. Spend some time with your thoughts about recent events and compose a scrape book page of words and images.
Tuesday, June 2 Art Exercise 55: Speak up! Draw a message that speaks up against an injustice in the world.
Monday, June 1 Art Exercise 54: Create a tree of equity. What does this tree look like that reaches all people? Imagine what structures you can draw in to support people in the world.
Friday, May 29 Art Exercise 53: Create a message of safety and care. Draw, paint, chalk, collage it...be creative in making a message about safety and care in your window to share with others!
Thursday, May 28 Art Exercise 52: Paint to Music. Letting your creativity flow in response to music is a great way to let out feelings and just relax.
Wednesday, May 27 Art Exercise 51: Make your own paint using flour, water, salt and food coloring. Drip and drop a painting of different colors.
Friday, May 22 Art Exercise 49: Create a scavenger hunt for your family! Make a list of items based on color, pattern or texture. See if they can gather them up in a timed scavenger hunt.
Thursday, May 21 Art Exercise 48: Make a mandala. Whether you use the traditional sand or draw one on your own, this meditative symbol can easily help you to loosen up.
Wednesday, May 20 Art Exercise 47: Draw a sidewalk chalk obstacle course! Invent an obstacle course of hops, skips and twirls with a sidewalk chalk obstacle course.
Tuesday, May 19 Art Exercise 46: Reenact a famous sculpture. Search for some famous sculptors (ex. Michelangelo and Degas) and their work. Use various household items to reenact the sculpture.
Monday, May 18 Art Exercise 45: Create a family sculpture. For this activity, you make a clay representation of each family member-- mother, father, siblings, and any other close or influential family members to explore emotional dynamics and roles within your family.
Friday, May 15 Art Exercise 44: Only use colors that calm you. Create a drawing or a painting using only colors that you find calming.
Thursday, May 14 Art Exercise 43: Draw with your eyes closed. Not being able to see what you are drawing intensifies fluidity, intuition, touch and sensitivity.
Wednesday, May 13 Art Exercise 42: Draw in sand. Like a Zen garden, this activity will have you drawing shapes and scenes in the sand, which can be immensely relaxing and a great way to clear your mind.
Tuesday, May 12 Art Exercise 41: Draw from an ant's point of view! Make your cup or bowl much larger in size.
Monday, May 11 Art Exercise 40: Make a zentangle. These fun little drawings are a great tool for letting go and helping reduce stress.
Friday, May 8 Art Exercise 39: Draw or create a paper flower for someone special! Share it with him or her with a positive note.
Thursday, May 7 Art Exercise 38: Thank you cards to your teacher! It is teacher appreciation week. Create a card to your teacher sharing a message of what you are thankful for.
Wednesday, May 6 Art Exercise 37: Camouflage your favorite animal or insect. Pick a favorite insect or animal and draw it into an environment (biome). Try your best to camouflage the creature. Have someone try to find your animal in your picture.

Monday, May 4 Art Exercise 35: Make a puzzle of your drawing. First draw a picture of any type from spring theme scene of flowers to a picture of your favorite cartoon character. Then cut the picture apart in all shapes not too small. Like try to cut it into at least 10 to 15 shapes. Then mix up the pieces. You can put it back together yourself or have family member put it back together. You made a puzzle of fun!
Friday, May 1 Art Exercise 34: Draw the plants and flowers. Step outside with a pencil and paper. Draw the flowers and plants that are growing in around you.
Thursday, April 30 Art Exercise 33: Paint a rock! Be as creative with your rock. Paint a positive message and leave it in a different place for someone to find.
Wednesday, April 29 Art Exercise 32: Construct a mini diorama. A diorama can showcase an important moment in your life or something from your imagination.
Tuesday, April 28 Art Exercise 31: Make a map. Draw a map of your house and place items of importance on the map. X marks the spot for your favorite things in your home. Have a family member follow the map on a scavenger hunt for those items.

Monday, April 27 Art Exercise 30: Create a portrait using fruits and vegetables like Giuseppe Arcimboldo. You can also use any other items in your home (ex. towels for portraits) if you do not have fruits and veggies available.

Friday, April 24 Art Exercise 29: Make a sock puppet! Take an old sock (or new) and use paper and glue to create the parts (any small found items). Fabric glue works best for items. If you have Elmer's glue, it can work if you let the glue thicken (leave a small cup of glue out in the air for an hour-mix occasionally) with time before you use it. Thursday, April 23 Exercise 28: Design a postcard of a spring theme. Write an encouraging note to a family member that is far away. Send it!
Wednesday, April 22 Exercise 27: Reenact a famous painting (example: pose like the Mona Lisa) and take a photograph.
Tuesday, April 21 Exercise 26: Think of a special quote from a person you admire and draw what the quote means to you. For example: "Derive happiness from a good day's work, from illuminating the fog that surrounds us."-Henri Matisse
Monday, April 20 Exercise 25: Create a drawing or a painting using only colors that you find calming.

Tuesday, April 14 Exercise 21: Draw Yourself as a Super Hero: Many people like superhero stories. We resonate with the themes in the stories, with the dilemmas and problems that superheroes face, and we aspire to their noble impulses and heroic acts.
Monday, April 13 Exercise 20: Create a self portrait. You may look in the mirror or use your phone in the selfie mode. Draw yourself with a smile.
Friday, April 10 Exercise 19: Write a positive message on the sidewalk with chalk.
Thursday, April 9 Exercise 18: Create an emotion wheel. Using color, this activity will have you thinking critically about your emotions. What is your colors for happy, sad, mad, busy, surprised, nervous and calm.
Wednesday, April 8 Exercise 17: Look for flowers outside. When you find a flower, try to get very close to it and draw/color all the parts you see.
Tuesday, April 7 Exercise 16: Take some toys out on a sunny day and place on the ground. Place a paper next to the toy where the shadow is. Draw the shadow by following it's outline. Color in the shape of the shadow you made with your favorite color or colors.
Monday, April 6 Exercise 15: Take the words of wisdom from someone else and turn them into something visually inspiring-collage, painting, and drawing.
Friday, April 3 Exercise 14: Create a drawing that represents freedom. Think of symbols that mean freedom to you in this drawing.

Thursday, April 2 Exercise 13: Draw outside. Working en plein air can be a fun way to relax and get in touch with nature while you're working on art. Find a sunny spot outside and draw what you see.

Tuesday, March 31 Exercise 11: Draw a shape like a heart or oval large on your paper. Divide the shape into 5 sections with straight or curved lines. In each section draw a repeated pattern to fill the space. Pick another pattern to draw and fill in another section. If you have color pencils or markers, add color. Here are examples of patterns to use in your drawing.

Monday, March 23 Art Exercise 5: Collage a peaceful message that keeps you calm. Collage is cutting and gluing paper scraps (magazine, newspaper, specialty papers, photographs) to a surface.

Friday, March 20 Art Exercise 4: Create a color wheel with found objects in your home-toys, fruit, household items, etc. Take a picture and send.
